DFS Legal States: 2025 Live List, Information & Latest Updates

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) are growing in popularity every single year. In many states without legalized sports betting, DFS contests offer fans ways to get in on the fun and win real money during games across a wide variety of sports.

Apps like PrizePicks (legal in 45 U.S. states), Underdog Fantasy (legal in 40 U.S. states), Sleeper Fantasy (legal in 27 U.S. states), DraftKings (legal in 44 U.S. states and Washington DC), Vivid Picks (legal in 21 U.S. states), Dabble (legal in 27 U.S. states) and more offer fans dozens, if not hundreds, of daily contests. These DFS apps listed above will represent the majority of the attention and information on this page.

Clearly, there are plenty of DFS legal states out there for sports fans. But which ones are in the mix and which aren’t? This page will take a look at the DFS landscape across the United States, so you’ll want to pay close attention!

Where is DFS Legal?

Daily Fantasy Sports legal states include some of the biggest states in the country and some of the biggest states in terms of population. For example, sports fans in California, Texas and Florida can’t legally bet on games. But all 3 of those states have legal DFS contests.

Even states like New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and many others with legalized sports betting also offer fans the opportunity to play legal DFS contests in some forms. We’ll get to some changes in New York in a bit.

Across the 50 state, only 5 – Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Washington – don’t allow any of the major DFS apps to operate within their borders. This means, if you live in any of the other 45 states, you can play Daily Fantasy Sports with whichever DFS app is available in that particular region of the country.

Some states allow DFS players to enter pick’em contests as well as daily drafts, while other states only allow players to participate in drafts. Some allow users to play contests involving college athletics. Others don’t. On this page, we’ll break down which states allow what when it comes to daily fantasy sports.

New York DFS Rules

New York has had some changes to its laws surrounding daily fantasy sports recently. Per Saturday Down South’s Robert Linnehan, New York banned DFS pick’em style contests in of Fall 2023.

Underdog and PrizePicks were among those challenging the ruling from the state. There was a resolution to the matter, as many DFS operators now offer “peer-to-peer” DFS contests in the state of New York.

Is Texas a DFS legal state?

Yes, daily fantasy sports contests are legal in Texas – a strong substitute for sports betting in a non-legal state. The Lone Star State offers sports fans the opportunity to participate in DFS contests.

Underdog, Sleeper, Thrive, DraftKings, FanDuel and many other DFS apps are online and functional in Texas. Users can participate in daily drafts, pick’em contests and more while located within the borders of the state of Texas.

Is DFS Legal in California?

Yes, California allows certain Daily Fantasy Apps such as Underdog California, PrizePicks, Vivid Picks and any other DFS app you see on this page. As of June 2025, there are no laws regulating the use of Daily Fantasy Sports apps like there are sports betting apps in California.

This is why California is one of the largest markets for Daily Fantasy Sports today. The most populous state in the country, California is home to a projected 42 million people as of mid-2025. At the same time, California is a sports-rich state, home to some of the most popular sports brands in the world such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, to name a few.

And although college sports DFS contests are rarer, California is also home to top athletics programs such as USC, UCLA, Stanford, San Diego State and San Francisco, to name a few.

Is DFS legal in Florida?

Like California touched on above, Florida is one of the biggest markets for DFS contests in the United States. Florida sports betting is in a better spot in its hike towards legalization compared to the Golden State, but it still could be years before legal sports betting is a reality in the Sunshine State. DFS, in turn, is an excellent alternative in a state that has as much sports representation as any state in the country.

All 5 of the major DFS apps listed on this page – DraftKings, PrizePicks, Sleeper, Vivid and Underdog – are available in Florida as of June 2025.

Florida, as alluded to earlier, has a large number of available teams to bet on, including those in-state such as the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, Miami Marlins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Orlando Magic and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Delaware Daily Fantasy Sports

Delaware was among the first states to legalize and regulate daily fantasy sports. This allowed popular DFS platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel to operate and provide their services to residents of Delaware. Other popular DFS apps like Underdog, Sleeper and Vivid Picks are not yet available in Delaware.

Though Delaware doesn’t have any professional sports teams or top-tier college football programs located within its borders, DFS enthusiasts in Delaware have access to a wide range of sports options, including popular choices like football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, golf, NASCAR and much, much more.

Wyoming Daily Fantasy Sports Sites

Fans in Wyoming may not have any professional sports teams, but they can enter DFS contests on any number of DFS apps, including Underdog, DraftKings, FanDuel, PrizePicks, and Sleeper. Whether fans in the Cowboy State want to enter contests involving the Wyoming Cowboys or nearby pro sports teams in Denver and Salt Lake City, there are numerous ways to play.

Wyoming has yet to address daily fantasy sports in a legal sense, so it remains among the DFS legal states across the country. As things currently stand, Wyoming residents are able to play DFS contests across numerous apps and involving a number of popular sports.

Kentucky Daily Fantasy Sports

Several DFS apps are online in the Bluegrass State! Kentuckians can participate in DFS contests on Dabble, Sleeper, Underdog, DraftKings, FanDuel, Vivid Picks, PrizePicks and more. Daily drafts, pick’em contests, best ball tournaments? All is available for Kentucky sports fans.

Want to play contests involving the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals or any of the nearby professional sports teams in Cincinnati or the state of Tennessee? Well, that is an option for all DFS users ages 18 and up within the Kentucky state border!

Kentucky has no formal laws on daily fantasy sports. The Bluegrass State legalized sports betting late in 2023, but daily fantasy sports remain an unregulated (for now) market in Kentucky.

Is Missouri a DFS legal state?

The Show-Me State does allow sports fans to participate in DFS contests. But while Missouri is a DFS legal state, it does not allow over/under or higher/lower player prop contests.

That doesn’t mean fans can’t play anything, though. Whether you are a fan of the Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Sporting KC or the new St. Louis City SC, fans can get in on the action at Underdog, FanDuel and DraftKings to play daily DFS drafts.

PrizePicks, Sleeper and other apps are not currently available in Missouri, but that could change in the future, so be sure to check this page occasionally for updates on the Show-Me State’s daily fantasy sports offerings!

Online DFS in Kansas

Kansas is among the fully legal DFS states, offering fans a wide range of options when it comes to playing daily contests with the chance to win real money. Underdog, FanDuel, DraftKings, Sleeper, Thrive, PrizePicks and other DFS apps are legal within the borders of the state of Kansas.

That’s good news for fans of the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats, as well as the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs located right across the river in Missouri.

Daily fantasy sports have been legal in Kansas since 2015, when a House Bill 215 passed the state legislature. While other states have chosen simply not to act on legalizing or banning daily fantasy sports, Kansas took a proactive approach to protect residents’ rights to play DFS contests.

Is DFS legal in Arizona?

Yes, with some restrictions. Underdog, DraftKings and FanDuel all operate in Arizona, but fans can’t participate in pick’em contests or best ball contests. Still, sports fans in Arizona can enter daily fantasy drafts to compete for real money.

Is DFS legal in Florida?

As of March 1, 2024, most DFS operators ceased operations in Florida. That was a short-lived absence, though, as most popular DFS platforms are now back online in the Sunshine State as of 2025 as a substitute for legal sports betting. DraftKings and FanDuel are still available, too.

Is DFS legal in Nevada?

No, DFS contests are not legal in the state of Nevada.

Is DFS legal in New York?

Yes, New York offers a variety of DFS contests to sports fans. Underdog, FanDuel and DraftKings are operational in the state, but some restrictions on pick’em style contests were enacted in 2024.

Is DFS legal in Texas?

Yes, as detailed above, Texas is among the DFS legal states. Underdog, Sleeper, Thrive, PrizePicks, DraftKings and FanDuel all operate in the Lone Star State and offer fans numerous opportunities to compete for real money.
